Zero Cost Services to Improve Communication Skills

At-home services for infants and toddlers for better speech.

May 13, 2026

Communication is a broad developmental area for a young child. For an infant, communication may take the form of turning towards sounds, using eye contact, cooing, or crying. For a toddler, communication skills can rapidly expand to responding to their name, following simple instructions and associating words with objects such as ‘car’ or ‘book’.

Communication skills and the importance of developing both skills:

  1. Receptive language skills refer to a child’s ability to understand language including words, directions, and meaning.
  2. Expressive language skills include a child’s ability to communicate their feelings, thoughts, and ideas through words, gestures, or other forms of communication.

At Partners in Child Development’s Early Intervention Services, we help infants and young children up to three years old by addressing concerns a family may have with both receptive and expressive communication.

Good news!  Our Early Intervention Services are here to help you and your family!

Substantial research shows the positive impact on a child’s life when they receive early intervention services to assist with a wide range of common concerns parents or caregivers may have about an infant or toddler’s growth and development. This time in a child’s development from infancy up to age three is when the brain is rapidly developing. Early intervention has been shown to have a dramatic effect on the child’s continued growth and development.

Our Early Intervention Services are available to children and their families living in any of the Greater Lowell communities including Billerica, Chelmsford, Dracut, Dunstable, Lowell, Tewksbury, Tyngsborough, and Westford.

“I did an online search for services as I had concerns about my daughter’s speech. Early Intervention Services was the first to respond to my online inquiry, scheduling an assessment quickly and now providing speech therapy services for Verra. She loves the therapist and is making great progress! I have also learned activities to incorporate into our daily lives."
